Classic Tier Reserve Tier Limited Release Wines

Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, Napa Valley

  Our Sauvignon Blanc grapes came from five vineyard blocks in the Napa Valley. These vineyards in Oakville and Rutherford include small blocks of Semillon and a unique clone of Sauvignon Blanc called Muscadelle de Bordelaise. The vineyards were planted from the 1960ís to the 1990ís. The grapes hang on the vine until they reach a golden ripeness and are full of tropical melon flavors, then they are hand picked and brought to the winery.

Most of the grapes are gently whole cluster pressed using the most gentle of pressing techniques to maximize our intense fruit flavors. Approximately 1/4 of the grapes are destemmed, crushed and kept in contact with the skins overnight before pressing off the juice; this enriches mouth feel. Most lots were inoculated with one of several yeast strains; some lots went through uninoculated fermentations. This wine underwent malolactic fermentation. The yeast lees were stirred daily, then weekly, bi-weekly and monthly, and the wine was racked from barrel just prior to bottling. The Reserve is the result of a barrel-by-barrel selection of the richest, most complex lots, the highest expression of the vintage.

Tasting Notes
Layered aromatics and flavors of pear, honeydew melon, peach, kiwi and some characteristic box wood. Barrel fermentation provides some creaminess but only a touch of vanilla oak on the after taste. Complex and layered, yet supple and plush with some firm acid. An easy wine to love with food or just friends.
