  Our Carneros Estate is within the cool climate Napa Carneros region. Temperatures are moderated by the adjoining San Pablo Bay, cool afternoon breezes and persistent morning fog. This climate yields grapes that have both enough cool hang time and sunshine to develop great depth of flavor and natural acidity. Our Pinot Blanc vineyard is on the south-eastern slope of the winery’s estate. This vineyard block required careful morning side leaf removal and irrigation management to ensure enough “hang time” for even and complete berry ripening. Too few leaves on the vine do not generate enough energy for world-class flavors and the berries may become sun-burned; too many leaves and the berries are shaded and less fruity.

Following hand-harvesting, the grapes were whole cluster pressed using a gentle sparkling wine process. Creamy texture and just a hint of oak flavor are provided by barrel fermenting in only 10% new French Oak and 90% old used oak. Malolactic fermentation was discouraged although the lees were stirred for two months to enhance mouth feel. This wine was aged for six months before being pulled from barrel for blending, stabilization and bottling.

Tasting Notes
First impressions are of honeysuckle, apricot, peach, lemon zest and crème brule. Hints of vanilla and honeydew add depth to this wine. The crispness of the fruit is complemented by the lightest touch of nuanced oak. Although dry, the round richness and seamless integration of flavors gives the sensation of sweetness and a lingering finish.
