Alexander Valley Cabernet Franc
Cabernet Franc, Alexander Valley

  Above the Alexander Valley floor looms our mountainside estate. Small intensely flavored berries result from our rocky soils and western sun drenched slopes. Our mountain side drainage paid huge dividends in this late spring rain year restricting the vines growth and crop size. We have planted all five Bordeaux varietials to guarantee the broadest possible flavor palate to blend from. Extensive shoot, leaf and fruit thinning in the vineyard insure that we have even and full ripening.

Winemaking
Following hand-harvesting, the grapes were de-stemmed only (whole berries). Each vineyard block was kept separate. Fermentations were conducted in a combination of open-top vessels with a punch-down device and closed tanks with gentle cap irrigators. Extended maceration was utilized to deepen and broaden the wine’s structure. Each vineyard was pressed directly to barrel, and malolactic fermentations finished in barrel. The wines were racked three times during aging for clarification and controlled aeration to enhance aging. Each barrel was hand selected for inclusion in this wonderful wine.

Tasting Notes
Concentrated flavors of cassis, and raspberry are complimented with a wonderful floral and spice bouquet that makes this a great Cabernet Franc. Enjoy the beauty of this varietal - so marvelously rich, smooth, dense, elegant, refined and delicate all at the same time. Perfect oak balance seamlessly supports the wine with notes of clove, dark chocolate, vanilla, nutmeg and a whisp of smoke. This wine is delicious now and will age well over the next decade.
